Eugen Glasow - Community Spotlight
Born in the Soviet Union (née Evgeny Anatolyevich Glazov) I studied physics and informatics in Moscow. To earn a few bucks, I joined a consultancy named Columbus Russia in 1999 as a translator and a content writer and got in contact with Damgaard XAL 3.0 and Damgaard Axapta 1.5 for the first time. Thanks to the affinity to programming, I attained X++ skills in a self-study and moved on to software development. Within a few years, Columbus A/S was partially acquired by Damgaard A/S, then Damgaard merged with Navision, and shortly after Microsoft consumed them all. I found myself at a Program Manager position in the Microsoft Business Solutions division and supervised localization of Axapta 3.0 for the Russian market. Curious about the culture, I relocated to Vienna, joined a small but lovely team, mastered the German language and spent 5 years developing AX solutions for customers in Austria and abroad. However, after 8 years in software engineering I realized I was bored: one throws the known ingredients into a pot, stirs and cooks the same dish over and over again. I stepped out of the comfort zone and transitioned to functional ERP consulting. This is what I’ve been doing for 10 years, recently with Microsoft Services building most complex D365FO solutions in Europe, learning from the recognized industry veterans. I was steadily expanding the footprint from the manufacturing, PIM and logistics into accounting and cost accounting, then project management automation and PSA and into the electronic reporting and warehouse management. My specialty is a ‘non-invasive’ ERP implementation with as little customization as possible. |

What I enjoy the most is to deliver a solution end to end as a ‘one man army’: meet the customer, collect the requirements, conceive and present the design, configure and customize Dynamics if needed, train the users, help migrate data and deploy the solution and – this is the ultimately satisfying part - watch it work. Not everyone has this privilege, and to do what I like I am now serving as a freelance techno-functional Dynamics 365 architect, roaming mostly around Austria, France, Switzerland and Germany.
I speak fluently 3 languages and understand a few more (which is the new normality in Europe). In my spare time I am a martial artist holding the 1st dan in aikido, a hobby mountaineer (see the photo at 4000 m), a wannabe carpenter, electrician, a photovoltaics and an e-car enthusiast. In September, meet me for a bier in Paris or Frankfurt am Main! |
"Coming from an academic background I feel it natural to share and disseminate the knowledge. You do it just because you can and can’t hold it. This is why I have been a passionate blogger and a contributor to diverse AX / Dynamics communities for more than 15 years. Contemplating on the questions helps one think out of the box, animates to a research and self-improvement“.
