"Warehouse specific setup" in Storage Dimension Group

Hi everyone,

While setting up the Storage Dimension Group, I noticed that the "Warehouse specific setup" field is mandatory when the Warehouse dimension is selected.

My question is:

Should we enable "Warehouse specific setup" now, even if we're not using WHS yet — just to future-proof the setup? Or is it safe to leave it disabled for now and change it later if we adopt WHS?

Would really appreciate your insights and best practices from real-world projects.

    Hi CUS-001. ,

Can you clarify your question, please? There is no field called Warehouse specific setup. There is a field groep with that name having two fields: Mandatory and Primary stocking. These fields aren't mandatory when setting up storage dimension groups in the standard application.

    Hi,

It is generally not recommended to modify a storage dimension group if there are any posted transactions associated with it.

If the "Warehouse-specific setup" is not marked as mandatory, the system will not enforce the Warehouse dimension as a required field for items linked to this storage dimension group. This setting can be modified at any time, as the system allows such changes.

However, when it comes to the "Use warehouse management process" (WHS) setting, it cannot be changed if there are posted transactions related to the item.

Additionally, even if "Use warehouse management process" is enabled, you can still process orders through the non-WHS flow in the rich client.

Keep in mind: enabling the "Use warehouse management process" automatically activates related dimensions such as Location, Inventory status, and License plate.

    Hope it helps.!
